Private Duty Overview

Private duty home care is a service we provide to elderly individuals who are in need of assistance with day-to-day activities. A private duty personal care assistant visits their home or the home of a loved one and helps with activities such as meal preparation, housekeeping, and personal grooming and hygiene. A private duty home personal care assistant can also provide companionship for the elderly, as well as respite care to relieve family members who care for their loved ones on a regular basis. Private duty home caregivers make it possible for elderly individuals to stay home safely and enjoy the comfort and familiarity of a space with years of memories. Private duty home care also makes it possible to transport the elderly to places they wish to go or visit, and in some cases personal care assistants assist with therapy assignments provided by physical therapy services.

Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s)

Personal hygiene. Bathing/showering, grooming, nail care, and oral care. 

 

Dressing. The ability to make appropriate clothing decisions and physically dress/undress oneself. 

 

Eating. The ability to feed oneself though not necessarily the capability to prepare food.

 

Maintaining continence. Both the mental and physical capacity to use a restroom and clean oneself. 

 

Transferring/Mobility. Moving oneself from seating to standing, getting in and out of bed and the ability to walk independently. Transportation, Meal prep , shopping, housework, medication reminders.

 

Whether or not an individual is capable of performing these activities on their own or if they rely on a caregiver for assistance to perform them serves a comparative measure of their independence.
